Excerpts from an interview with Frika Chia Iskandar

Frika Chia Iskandar, 26, is one of the most well known female AIDS activists internationally. Frika is born in and grew up in Jakarta,Indonesia. She got infected when she was 17 years old and at that time she was a drug user and shared needles with her friends. She changed her life when she came to a drug rehabilitation linic and is now working for the Asia Pacific Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS. She is one of four young women living with HIV/AIDS, portrayed in the new Face of AIDS film production, "Women at the Frontline", made for the AIDS 2008 International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, August 2-8.

Excerpts from an interview with Ricardo Barush

Ricardo Barush, from Mexico City is one of the young AIDS activists from different parts of the world, who has been deeply involved in the development and growth of the Global Youth Alliance against IV/AIDS. This is the largest network of young activists in the world, using internet and new digital media to involve young people in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. This is a short segment from an interview Face of AIDS made with Ricardo in Mexico City during the preparation of the AIDS 2008 international AIDS Conference.

Interview with Peter Piot, Executive Director, UNAIDS, November 2007

Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS, Geneva, has actively been involved in the global fight against HIV/AIDS since the mid 80´s. During his 12 years as head of UNAIDS, he has seen the global commitment to HIV/AIDS grow from 200 million dollar a year to 8 billion dollars a year. This is an excerpt from a long one to one interview made in his Geneva home in January 2007 by Face of AIDS Staffan Hildebrand.

Metro Teen AIDS, Washington DC, USA, 2006

Metro Teen AIDS, highlighted in this film shot 2006, is a succesful youth HIV prevention project in Washington DC targeting young people. The young peer educators go to the streets and meet young people and communicate messages of safe sex and HIV information. Anne Wiesman, program director, is interviewed along with Tyrone, 17, peer educator.

Young Men as Equal Partners, Zambia, 2007

This film highlights the fight against HIV/AIDS in Zambia, focusing on the youth oriented projects Youth Vision and Young Men as Equal Partners. The projects communicates messages of sexual and reproductive health and rights to young people in Zambia. AIDS activists Edford Mutuma and Amos Mwale are interviewed.

Young voices. Mexico, Russia and US

This film, shot in 2007, highlights young people from the Russian city of Tver, a center of drug trafficing. The film also takes us to Washington DC and the prevention project Metro Teen AIDS. The film starts with a visit to Mexico City where we are meeting Ricardo Baruch from the Global Alliance on HIV/AIDS.

Zambia 2006. Young Men as Equal Partners prevention project.

This film highlights the Zambia Young Men as Equal Partners project, where young AIDS educators are reaching out to young men and women, discussing gender roles and sexual reproductive health and rights. Condoms are one key issue in their advocacy to empower young people to take responsibility for their sexuality. The film shows two young aids educators, Edford Mutuma and Amos Mwale from Young Men as Equal partners.
