This interview with dr Anthony Fauci, head of US AIDS research at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIAID, NIH, i Bethesda, USA was made at the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City in August 2008.
He comments on the global impact of this big AIDS conference, and also on the future prospects of AIDS research and AIDS vaccine trials. Dr Fauci is one of the most respected AIDS adcocates in the world.

Dr Jonathan Mann first confronted AIDS in central Africa in the early 80´s. He became the first Director of the Global Program on AIDS at the World Health Organization in Geneva. He died in 1998 and is remembered for his unque leadership role in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. This is an excerpt from a longer interview made in Geneva in March 1988 by Staffan Hildebrand, and was one of the first interviews made in the Face of Aids documentation project.
Nobel Prize 2008 for HIV/AIDS-research

This year the Nobel prize was awarded for HIV/AIDS for the first time in the category Medicine and Physiology. It was awarded to the two discoverers of the HIV virus, dr. Luc Montagnier, World AIDS Foundation, Paris, and dr. Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Dr, Montagnier has been a strong supporter of the Face of AIDS film documentation since Staffan Hildebrands first interview with him, in 1988.
The future of AIDS vaccine

Dr. Seth Berkley founded the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, IAVI, in 1996 and received the first major fundiung in 1998 from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He is the CEO of IAVI, which has its headquarter in New York. IAVI is a key organization in the global effort to develop an AIDS vaccine which is working. In spite of failures to develop a functioning AIDS vaccine in 2007-2008, the effort continues.
The story of anti- retroviral treatment

This film highlights the development of AIDS drugs from the first one, AZT in 1986 to the introduction of anti retro viral treatment (ARV) in 1996 and to the second generation ARV in 2004. Martin Delaney from the Project Inform, San Fransisco, AIDS expert dr Anthony Fauci from the federal US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and dr. Robert Gallo, co-discoverer of HIV, comments on the rapid development. AIDS patients on ARV are also interviewed in the film.
