Ricardo Barush, from Mexico City is one of the young AIDS activists from different parts of the world, who has been deeply involved in the development and growth of the Global Youth Alliance against IV/AIDS. Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS, Geneva, has actively been involved in the global fight against HIV/AIDS since the mid 80´s. During his 12 years as head of UNAIDS, he has seen the global commitment to HIV/AIDS grow from 200 million dollar a year to 8 billion dollars a year. This is an excerpt from a long one to one interview made in his Geneva home in January 2007 by Face of AIDS Staffan Hildebrand.

Italy was hit by HIV/AIDS in the eary 80´s. The response to HIV/AIDS from the strong Italian Catholic Church was ambivalent at the top level in the early phse of the epidemic. Italian AIDS activists accused the Catholic Church to promote stigma and discrimination through its ideology. But at the street level many Italian Catholic priests took an active part in caring for the AIDS patients and also in trying to communicate with young people about sex and condoms. Father Guiseppe Brunetta, involved in HIV prevention and caring for patients in Milan, gives his view of how to best fight HIV/AIDS based on his Christian values. Filmed in May 1988.

This film was shot in April 1988 with dying AIDS patients at the Ward 84 at the San Fransisco General Hospital, a hospital quickly becoming world known for their effort to take care of the AIDS patients. This was the early phase of the epidmeic and there was no functioning medication to treat AIDS patients. The film includes interviews with AIDS pioneers Paul Volberding, Mervyn Silverman and Ron Stall.

This film will give you a quick overview of how the AIDS situation in Thailand, has developed between 1988 - 2004. After the early phase, a political leadership at top level helped to mobilze the community to successfully fight HIV/ AIDS. At the center was the Senator Mechai Viravaidya, in media called Mr Condom. He has been a real pioneer, in halting the spread of HIV/ AIDS in Thailand. Today there is free distribution of anti retro virals to people living with HIV and AIDS. This film ends with a story shot in 2004 about seventeen year old orphan, On, living with HIV since birth. She now lives at an orphanage and gets free medication each day. Her dream is that all people living with HIV/ AIDS will have free access to anti retro viral treatment.
