Australian prostitutes collective 1988

This film, shot in Sydney in April 1988, shows how Judy, an AIDS-activist from the Australian Prostitutes Collective visit a legal brothel in Sydney. She is educating the female sex workers and informing them about safe sex, condoms and how to protect themselves. A young prostitute, Chrissie, is also interviewed.

Cambodia 2007 - Successful prevention

Cambodia is among the countries, wich have succeded to bring down the prevalence of HIV, thanks to a strong political commitment from the top leadership and the civil society. In this film the Korsang project, targeting young intravenous drug users is highlighted along with some projects supported by KHANA, the national Cambodian AIDS alliance. The KHANA director Mr Oum Sopheap is interviewed.

Ricardo Barush, from Mexico City is one of the young AIDS activists from different parts of the world, who has been deeply involved in the development and growth of the Global Youth Alliance against IV/AIDS. This is the largest network of young activists in the world, using internet and new digital media to involve young people in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS in rural India 2007

This film higlights the spread of HIV in the Nammakal district, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and the effort to halt further spread. This effort is led by the Nammakal General Hospital. They focus on intervention among long distance truck drivers and female sex workers serving them. Indian AIDS expert dr. Nm Samuel is intervewed in Nammakal. Shot in October 2007.

Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS, Geneva, has actively been involved in the global fight against HIV/AIDS since the mid 80´s. During his 12 years as head of UNAIDS, he has seen the global commitment to HIV/AIDS grow from 200 million dollar a year to 8 billion dollars a year. This is an excerpt from a long one to one interview made in his Geneva home in January 2007 by Face of AIDS Staffan Hildebrand.

Italy was hit by HIV/AIDS in the eary 80´s. The response to HIV/AIDS from the strong Italian Catholic Church was ambivalent at the top level in the early phse of the epidemic. Italian AIDS activists accused the Catholic Church to promote stigma and discrimination through its ideology. But at the street level many Italian Catholic priests took an active part in caring for the AIDS patients and also in trying to communicate with young people about sex and condoms. Father Guiseppe Brunetta, involved in HIV prevention and caring for patients in Milan, gives his view of how to best fight HIV/AIDS based on his Christian values. Filmed in May 1988.

Metro Teen AIDS, Washington DC, USA, 2006

Metro Teen AIDS, highlighted in this film shot 2006, is a succesful youth HIV prevention project in Washington DC targeting young people. The young peer educators go to the streets and meet young people and communicate messages of safe sex and HIV information. Anne Wiesman, program director, is interviewed along with Tyrone, 17, peer educator.

Paris teenagers and AIDS 1988

The French response to AIDS came rather quickly in the mid 80´s. The national campaigns focused on young people and safe sex. This film, shot in Paris in March 1988, depicts a group of teenagers in Paris and their attidtudes on HIV/AIDS and safe sex. Dr Didier Yale, a Paris AIDS doctor is talking to the teenagers about HIV/AIDS.

San Francisco AIDS situation 1988

This film was shot in April 1988 with dying AIDS patients at the Ward 84 at the San Fransisco General Hospital, a hospital quickly becoming world known for their effort to take care of the AIDS patients. This was the early phase of the epidmeic and there was no functioning medication to treat AIDS patients. The film includes interviews with AIDS pioneers Paul Volberding, Mervyn Silverman and Ron Stall.

Thailand - Confronting HIV/ AIDS

This film will give you a quick overview of how the AIDS situation in Thailand, has developed between 1988 - 2004. After the early phase, a political leadership at top level helped to mobilze the community to successfully fight HIV/ AIDS. At the center was the Senator Mechai Viravaidya, in media called Mr Condom. He has been a real pioneer, in halting the spread of HIV/ AIDS in Thailand. Today there is free distribution of anti retro virals to people living with HIV and AIDS. This film ends with a story shot in 2004 about seventeen year old orphan, On, living with HIV since birth. She now lives at an orphanage and gets free medication each day. Her dream is that all people living with HIV/ AIDS will have free access to anti retro viral treatment.

The crack epidemic in Bronx 1989

This film focus on the emerging crack epidemic situation in the Bronx and how a narcotics squad in March 1989 are arresting a teenage drug dealer in the Berkland area of the Bronx and bring him to the 47th Precinct headquarter for questioning. The connection with the drug epidemic and the spread of HIV/AIDS is very clear.

Young Men as Equal Partners, Zambia, 2007
