Interview - Becoming an addict

David Gordon, who is born in the early 40´s, tells his fascinating story of how he as a young man became a drug addict and criminal in California and ended up in prison. Finally he left the drug lifestyle, and became clean. That’s when he decided to leave everything he had in the US, and settle down in Indonesia with his new Indonesian wife, and start all over again by helping young Indonesian drug addicts, many of them with HIV.

Dr Jonathan Mann first confronted AIDS in central Africa in the early 80´s. He became the first Director of the Global Program on AIDS at the World Health Organization in Geneva. He died in 1998 and is remembered for his unque leadership role in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. This is an excerpt from a longer interview made in Geneva in March 1988 by Staffan Hildebrand, and was one of the first interviews made in the Face of Aids documentation project.
San Francisco - The early years

This film highlight the early dramatic years of the AIDS pandemic in San Fransisco between 1978 – 1981. The vibrant Castro neighborhood became the epicenter of the epidemic. Doctor Selma Dritz, infectious disease specialist gives her unique recollection. Martin Delaney, Project Inform remembers the early years. In the end of the film, dr Paul Volberding, a pioneer in the fight against AIDS in San Fransisco, is reflecting on the early response, in an interview made 1998.
The Legacy of Dr. Jonathan Mann, 1947-1998

Jonathan Mann, a medical scientist and doctor from the US, became the first Director of the World Health Organization's Global Program on AIDS in 1985. He became one of the most important global AIDS advocates ever, and was the first to connect the global response to HIV/AIDS to the fight for Human Rights. This film was produced for UNAIDS to the ten year commemoration seminar at UNAIDS in Geneva, November 24, 2008 to commemorate dr. Manns death in 1998. A number of world leading AIDS experts comments on the legacy of dr. Mann in this ten minute film.
